Don't you love it when you take your car in to get it serviced just before you leave on a road trip and then you end up stranded in the middle of nowhere with a tired, hungry baby a couple of hours down the road?
Jiffy Lube is on Shane's blacklist these days after they apparently overfilled our transmission fluid causing smoke and bizarre car behavior as we climbed the hill into Flagstaff. We found ourselves stuck. Thanks to Joe's help, after a couple of hours, we got things temporarily figured out and drove slowly at the side of the road into Flagstaff to stay the night at the hotel Joe had found for us. It happened to be across the street from the shop we needed to get to in the morning. Despite all the complaints I could express, I will instead offer gratitude and thanks to Joe for taking care of us that night.
We ended up on Route 66 at the Travel Inn. At least we can say we stopped somewhere kind of historically cool, right? Oh yeah, and we can say we ended up safe, too. Thanks Uncle Joe!

Playing with Daddy
Carter loved playing with this toy at the doctor's office so much that we decided to get him one. Another great IKEA purchase. Also, you'll notice the shiner on Carter's poor little forehead. He was trying to climb over a box and fell over it instead. He's fine, just was a little grumpy for a day or two afterward -- you could tell he was hurting, poor thing.

He's off...
Well, CJ's at the point now where he's getting to be quite the crawler. He's a total monkey. He can get anywhere he wants to if he tries long enough! When we catch him getting into mischief, as soon as he hears his name, he looks up with a big grin and takes off away from us as fast as he can with whatever he has in tow (while breathing in and out as fast as possible). As a reult, this scene is common -- the tail end of the getaway vehicle as it takes off. This is one of those pictures that really is worth a thousand words, at least for me!

Forgive our Lack of Posting!
Hello Friends!
Sorry, no pictures with this post. I am just here to say that we are sorry that it's been so long since we posted! I can't believe it's June already! (Happy Birthday today, Bradley!) We finally finished up at the old rental house and are completely out, keys turned in and all. It is spotless down to the masterfully cleaned windows (thanks to Shane). Mom would be proud of my excessive use of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! Better than when we arrived, just like you are supposed to leave any campground, right?? All we can do now is pray that we receive our full deposit back. Our property manager has been less than sweet towards us lately, since we bought our new place through another agent, so we hope her heart will be softened and she'll not hold anything against us because we worked really hard and we really need that money! For those of you who haven't heard about that drama, you can be thankful you missed it! Our neighbor across the street there at the old house came over to say good-bye the other night as we were packing up the last load of stuff. He has commented again and again that we have appeared to care for the house better than any renter he's ever seen. I told him to feel free to share that with the property manager if she came by looking upset! Anyway, now we are just begining to realize how much stuff we have to go through and get rid of. We lost 400 square feet and a two-car garage worth of space, and therefore have to compensate. The dejunking/unpacking/settling in will begin tomorrow. Tonight we plan to celebrate the end of rental house cleaning and moving and to go swimming!
In other news, Carter is officially 10 months old. He's crawling and cruising (walking along furniture, etc.) like a pro now. He's even accidentally stood on his own a few times as he's been reaching for things and has forgotten that he's standing up. We just got home from the new pediatrician. He weighs 23 lbs. 3 oz., 2 oz. less than last time. He is about 30 inches tall. He's dropped from the 95th percentile to about the 80th. (All that moving around, I tell you! The kid can't sit still. This is the stage where diaper changing becomes nearly impossible as the child learns to do acrobatic-type flips and twists as you attempt to hold one leg down and attach the diaper with the other hand!) We had to get caught up since he hadn't officially had his 9 month well visit yet. This time, Carter only had to have one shot. He was trying to eat his band-aid when we got him out of the car afterwards!
Okay, you are probably getting tired of reading now. Hugs to all. We miss those of you who are far, and even those of you nearby, since you are having a family reunion for the other side this week. Have a lovely weekend!
