Spotlight - Ben & Sherrie

Ben and Sherrie are our good friends here in Arizona that are hoping to adopt. Please take a moment to get to know them. You can find out more about them and contact them by visiting:www.benandsherrie.com

Ben & Sherrie

We cannot wait to add children to our family. After years of fertility treatments and struggles, we are thrilled for the opportunity to adopt! We feel that the Lord has led us to this path, just as our birth parents and children are. We believe adoption is a miracle and can’t wait to have one of our own.

We have been married for 7 years and have loved every one of them. We got married right before Ben started college. Our favorite thing to do is to spend time with each other and with family and friends. There is nothing we like more than to play games and talking with those we love. We love visiting with our families, especially during the holidays. We are both the middle children in our families! Ben has three brothers and one sister. Sherrie has two sisters and is wedged right in the middle. We tease each other and say we have serious middle child syndrome!

WHY BEN LOVES SHERRIE:

Sherrie is the love of my life. I was so lucky to find her when I did! She is beautiful on the inside and the outside. Everyone who knows her loves her kind and friendly nature. Before I graduated from college, she worked with people with special needs at their jobs. She was very compassionate with them, and always had their best interests at heart. Sherrie is also very crafty and loves to make cards for special occasions. She is currently in a club with others to learn new techniques and to swap ideas. She has an eye for what goes together well, and enjoys decorating and organizing. She loves to plan parties and fun friend activities. I love to watch her with my nieces and nephews. She truly has a love for children that makes me love her even more. She likes to babysit our friend's children so they can have a break and get things done they need to do.

WHY SHERRIE LOVES BEN:

One of the things I admire most about Ben is his hard work ethic and dedication to whatever he sets his mind to. If there is anything he doesn't know, he learns how to do it. He is multi-talented with so many interests. I cannot wait to see him pass these onto our children and teach them. Not only does Ben play the trumpet and the guitar, he is also teaching himself piano and loves singing. I know that he will make a wonderful father. When he is with the kids he finds no greater joy then seeing the smile on their faces.

Ben loves his family and enjoys the times that he can be with them. He came from a strong family that is faithful in church and in family gatherings such as family nights together, scripture study, and gathering around the table for dinner. He strives to implement these things into our home and family so that we can have a home centered upon Christ and family.

We love our lives right now; we just cannot wait to share our wonderful life with a beautiful child! Ben has a great career as a computer engineer and loves what he does. I am a homemaker, but work a part time job until we have children. When children arrive, Ben will be able to make enough money to provide for us. I will be a stay at home mom. We believe it is very important for a mom to be at home to love and nurture our kids.

We both show great love for each other and for our families. We hope to raise a family on similar teachings that we were brought up on and by doing so we hope to have a strong family unit and bond. We both participate and serve in church. We find no greater joy than going to the Temple together. We pray together daily and have a family night each week. We enjoy going to church functioned activities so that we can meet new people and look forward to making friends.

Ruby doll

My thoughtful new friend Andrea (who also happens to have taken pictures of Ruby recently for our birth announcement) made Ruby an adorable little stuffed doll from an online pattern actually called "Ruby doll" and we love it! You can see Andrea's Ruby doll creation here. It inspired me to want to make a small herd of them so that Ruby will have playmates for the original Ruby doll when she gets older. It was my first sewing project in a long time and since my sewing exposure is limited and I have no machine, I made my first Ruby doll by hand. I am pleased to introduce you to my first Ruby doll...for my Ruby. Thanks for looking!

Weekly Adoption Spotlight

While we're waiting for Ruby to grow and not currently looking to adopt, we want to do what we can to help match other hopeful adoptive couples. We'll have a spotlight up on our home page and do a blog post once a week. If anyone knows of an expectant mother who is considering adoption, please pass on their information if you have the opportunity. We also have links up to other hopeful couples on our home page. They are all great families with a lot of love to share!

Meet Tyler and Mandy and big brother-to-be Jordan. You can find out more about them and contact them by visiting http://tinyurl.com/tylerandmandy

Tyler, Mandy and Jordan

This family has so much fun together. They love to go on walks and hike in the mountains. One of their favorite things is to go to Disney World or Disneyland every year. One of their favorite games is Disney Trivia.

Jordan loves anything that moves: cars, train, diggers. They have now learned all the names of construction vehicles, train cars and any car on the road. He loves to run, travel, and go to Disneyworld. They have been able to travel to Europe, Mexico and all over the U.S. Jordan is a great traveler as long and he has treats and toy cars. He loves to learn and try new things so he fits in well in his family.

Tyler loves to work on his computer. He also loves to go caving, camping, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and road trips. He loves to spend time with family, and especially with Jordan. He is good at woodworking, math, and anything to do with computers. He loves to go on the trips that Mandy plans.

Mandy loves to scrapbook and organize their home. She also likes to play the piano and sing. She is currently learning how to quilt. She loves teaching. One of her passions is planning trips. They have been able to go to many different places and meet many different people. She loves traveling and experiencing different cultures.

Tyler and Mandy were both raised in Utah with loving parents who supported them in all of their dreams. They met in 1996 and were married in June of 1997. They live in a very family friendly neighborhood in a great area of Utah. Their home is one that is full of love with more to share!

Just Another Day at the Park

It finally cooled off enough that we could go to the park in the middle of the day. We'll miss the swimming weather, but we're ready for fall in Phoenix!

Whose Kid is That??

Carter and I were walking to the park and Megan drove by. While I stopped to talk to Megan, he took off for the playground. The next time I looked, he was tinklin' in the middle of the park.

protector

Such sweetness! This is why I love my big brothers more than most people on earth.

He had to sit right next to her while he watched a movie. He had to have his arm around her. He had to keep kissing her and giving her loves. The most common phrase out of his mouth these days? "Aww, she's so cute!" (Always accompanied by a little giggle of admiration.)

Mother's Day 2009

I know Mother's Day is long gone, but I thought I'd share the video I made for Megan for mother's day this year. Yeah, it's cheesy, but humor me on this one. Enjoy!

Cousins!

It was so great to have Shane's sister Kim, her husband, and her boys in town for a visit. Carter just loves his cousins!
The boys

The Girls (and baby boy K)

E didn't care about swimming much, as long as he had a hot set of wheels.

L geared up for fun.

Carter seized an opportunity to play in the ashes while he was in clothes that could be hosed off.

Shane's sister and Megan finished off the day with a visit to see A & D's triplets (extended family). Too cute!

TLC Time with Daddy (aka I-woke-up-at-an-unearthly-hour-and-everyone-else-is-in-bed Time)

Ruby's the cutest little morning person we know. Sure love that girl!

I Needa Fix This Chair

Carter helped... er um... didn't completely hinder Dad in replacing the AC fan in the car this week. Not surprisingly, he later found all kinds of things in the house in desperate need of repair. It's sure nice to have a son that knows his way around a tool box to keep things in tip-top shape!

Kramer Hair

We just can't get enough of Ruby's fun and crazy hair after a bath.
We'll miss it a little bit when her real hair grows in.

Mmm, I Looove Mustard!

You've never heard someone say that before. Am I right?
After Carter rifled through his sandwich eating the toppings he wanted, he finished off his meal with a few refills of mustard on his bread. Finger-lickin' good!

Greenfield Village

While in Michigan waiting to bring Ruby home, one of the host families we stayed with hooked us up with free tickets to Greenfield Village - an 80 acre time machine. Henry Ford trucked in historic homes and restored them all in this village. The employees dress in period attire and the village features restaurants that serve food from that era.

The village is located in Dearborn Michigan, where our Dear Ruby was Born.

You are greeted by an old fashioned steam engine offering rides around the village.

Workers play games from the olden days with the kids.

You can take a ride in an original Model T Ford.

The chili patch outside the restaurant.

Corn cob art.

Shane's Hot Beef Sandwich - a bread bowl full of mashed potatoes, pot roast, and gravy. He couldn't even finish it. That's saying a lot for Shane. He did save room for the bread pudding and vanilla sauce though.

Megan enjoyed an open face pulled-pork sandwich and some awesome mac & cheese.

There were little ads like this all around. It's a pity they stopped making this cocoa that made you live longer. You'd think that would have been a winner.

The Heinz house displayed some bottles from the original 57 varieties of sauces they made.

The Wright brother's bicycle shop had a replica of the original flying machine they built in the back room.

A wall in Thomas Edison's laboratory.

This is the sitting room in the Sarah Jordan Boarding House where a widow housed some of Edison's workers. Notice the 3D glasses on the table. I thought they were pretty cool.

Remember How Fun This Game Is?

But who has the patience to actually follow the rules? Carter persuaded Shane to get this out at Nana's house. He could hardly contain himself while Shane set up the trap and loved setting it off over and over again.

I'm Always Glad When Grandpa Comes!

Over the Labor Day weekend, Grandpa H, Shane's Grandpa, came down to visit and met Ruby for the first time. As you can see, she warmed right up to him.

Here are Great-Grandpa and "Grandpa" Joe. These kids are going to have a hard time keeping all their Grandpas and Grandmas straight.

Thanks for visiting Grandpa H! We miss you already!
