Halloween 2008

Carter and I had fun during the day trying on different fun Halloween costumes. Carter especially liked this one, which he alternated between calling dinosaur and dragon.

In the evening, we headed over to the church for the annual trunk-or-treat, dinner, and carnival party. Apparently, the only picture we got was of Carter fishing at the fishing booth, but we had a lot of fun. Afterward, our friends Ben and Sherrie (who came to trunk-or-treat with us) hung out for a while. We had donuts and hot chocolate and watched 'It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown'. We hope you all had a safe, fun Halloween. We'd love to hear what you and your family were for Halloween and what you did to celebrate this year! Do you have any Halloween traditions?

Trick-or-Treating at Daddy's office and pumpkin party

Carter happily put on his "chicken bok-bok" costume to get to go see Daddy at work and to get some free candy. He ran from cubical to cubical trying to grab as much candy as he could at each one. We had to stop him and say "just one" at almost every single stop.

He was especially excited to go to Ben's cube because he knows Ben (Shane's friend), so he knew he could talk him into opening the candy right then to try some.

After he got bored with the monotony of trick-or-treating, all he wanted to do was get back to Daddy's cube to "work" his little heart out. He was clickity-clacking away at the keyboard like he knew what he was doing.

On the way home from trick-or-treating at the office, Brittney (Shane's cousin) called and we decided to get together for taco soup, pumpkin bars, pumpkin carving, etc. Here Dan and Britt are working on their pumpkin together.

And Shane got started on our pumpkin...

Brittney let Carter "help" with her pumpkin. He really wanted to help get the "spiderwebs" out of the inside of the pumpkin.

Here's how Brittney's lovely jack-o-lantern turned out:

These are the yummy pumpkin bars we got started on.

And this was how Shane's pumpkin carving skills worked out on our pumpkin.
He is always so creative each year.

A good time was definitely had by all!

Boo at the Zoo

We had a great time at the zoo today! It was "Boo at the Zoo" weekend, so it was fun to see kids in costumes and to have some special Halloween activities going on while we were there. We got a membership and are excited to visit more often. If you come visit, we have some guest passes for you to come with us to the zoo!Carter liked helping to push the stroller "faster" along the path.

CJ especially liked the tractors around for kids to climb on.

...and petting/brushing the goats. He just ran from goat to goat, giving them each a small bit of affection before moving on to make sure he spread the love evenly among all the goats.

Don't worry, Shane is just off to the right holding onto Carter so he doesn't fall in.

At the zoo pumpkin patch, Carter was very concerned with propping this busted squash upright. It was a fun game. He would prop it up, then he would start to leave and it would collapse again. He'd say "oh! punkin!" And run back to "fissick" (fix-it). We finally had to pull him away kicking and screaming. He loves pumpkins.

CJ's first bouncy experience was not really very productive. He preferred grabbing the bouncy balls by the handle and chucking them as hard and fast as he could toward the other children...

My absolute favorite from today.

A kind stranger offered to take our picture together.

After just a couple of hours at the zoo, we were all so tired we could hardly move. It was 90 degrees out and we all got a bit sun-kissed. You know those days where the sun just seems to zap everything out of you? It was one of those, but mixed with a lot of walking. However, we had a lot of fun and Carter was thrilled to run around and see new things and lots of other kids (one kid, dressed up like a pirate, walked up next to Carter at the iguana exhibit. Carter took one look at him and exclaimed, "Aaarrr, Matey!" Everyone around the exhibit heard him and there was a good deal of laughter that followed.) Carter was tired out as well, though. We were only in the car about 10 seconds before he fell asleep!

California Quick Trip

Our trip to California over the weekend was wonderful, but too quick! We started out in my hometown, Newhall, Thursday night. We stayed with my dear friend Ashley, her mother, and her sister in their beautiful home (where I think I spent half my time growing up). It was strange to be back there after more than seven years has passed. It's weird how so much changes, yet so much seems to stay the same! We enjoyed seeing some other friends as well, Katie and Carrie, Belinda, Chelsea, and sweet baby Tylie. I am sad to say that we took no pictures during our less-than-24-hour stay there (although we had our family pictures taken by my friend Heather), but we did get some while visiting my brother and his family from Friday night to Sunday night in San Clemente.

We were especially excited about meeting our newest nephew, Crew. What a sweet baby! Here he is trying on his chili pepper Halloween costume with his big sister Mikelle.

On Saturday, we got to go watch our nephew Ty's flag football game. Ty is seven. He gave us his best football pose for this picture. ;)
In this picture, Ty is off the right. He scored an extra point and his team won the game!

We were sorry we didn't get out early enough Saturday to make it to Cole's tackle football game before Ty's. Here is a picture of the handsome, quickly-growing Cole (who turned 11 last week although he looks older) throwing the ball to a friend during Ty's game.
Luke is about a year and a half older than Carter. He is so nice to Carter and Carter fell in love with Luke all over again this visit. He followed him everywhere and if he ever became separated from him, he would get desperate to find "Yookie," wandering around calling out for him. Luke is a contagiously happy kid with scrumptious naturally curly blond hair!

Here's another picture of Luke -- this one was taken at Ty's football game at the park.

Mikelle is quite the character. She is in Kindergarten this year and is learning a lot fast! She goes to a Spanish-immersion school, so she already knows a lot of Spanish. She loves singing songs in Spanish. In particular, she likes to sing about the days of the week and months of the year. She lives out loud! I love this picture of her, especially because my brother Chad is smiling adoringly at his cute daughter in the background.
The following pictures of Mikelle were taken at the park during Ty's football game.
And here are some of our own Carter taken at the park during Ty's game.
Flower for Momma. What a sweet boy!We celebrated Shane's birthday on Sunday while having dinner at Chad and Nicole's friends' lovely home. Here's a picture of the birthday boy with his cake! He's officially 29 now!
We don't have pictures from it, but we had an especially fun time on Saturday night. Chad and Nicole took us to a yummy local taco place called Wahoo's. Afterward, we headed over to Velvet yogurt for some delicious frozen yogurt. While we were there, multiple families and even the missionaries showed up, all people Chad and Nicole knew. It was a total party!

Thanks to all for a great little trip!
We got home this afternoon and already want to go back sometime soon! :)

Family Farm Fun

We made our third annual trip to a local family farm for their pumpkin and chili party event. I guess we can call it annual now since we've officially gone three years in a row! The first year we lived here we went alone with newborn Carter in tow. Last year, we took our friends Ben and Sherrie with us, and we decided to all go together again this year. Anyway, it's a lot of fun, and although it was still in the 90's temperature wise, it helped us feel a little closer to a place where the seasons change. ;) We enjoyed pumpkins, yummy food (especially caramel apple walnut pie from the bakery), live music, rides and games, pig races, the petting zoo, and more. The one thing we missed this year was the corn maze, but we figured Carter would have been a bit difficult to enjoy it with! Happy Fall!
