As of yesterday, Carter is officially 18 months old. This means something big in our LDS culture -- it means he gets to start nursery! He will attend the nursery class with the other 18 month olds to 3 year olds every Sunday while we attend our block of church meetings. A big step for all of us. We know he'll enjoy the toys, lessons, coloring, snacks, music, etc. We just pray he's nice to the other kids!Last night we had a little gathering in the name of Carter's half birthday, but mostly as an excuse to have our family & friends over for a party! We didn't get any pictures of our gathering, but we had a fun time with Joe, Claudia, Brad, Brittney, Dan, Ben, and Sherrie over for Taco Soup.
We went to the pediatrician today for Carter's 18 month well visit. Lately, everyone comments on how tall Carter is for his age, so we weren't surprised to learn that he's in about the 95th percentile for height at 34 inches. At 27 lbs, he is pretty average for weight, about 50-75th percentile.
The pediatrician really grilled us. One thing we weren't prepared for was to have him ask us how many words Carter says. We had no idea what to estimate for this. We told the doctor that Carter pretty much parrots us all day, repeating or at least attempting to repeat almost everything we say. The doctor asked if CJ at least knew 15-20 words and we said yes, at least, and that's not counting the signs he knows. Well, we came home and began a list of the words he says and/or signs every day on a regular basis. Within an hour or so, we had come up with a list of about 75 words! We didn't include any words we hadn't been hearing him repeat on a regular basis. Since CJ is my first child, and pride is naturally occurring at rates we sometimes underestimate, I had to fight off a strong urge all day to call up that doctor and set him straight! Can you picture the nurses rolling their eyes and me demanding to have a note made in his file that he's a GENIUS?! Don't worry, I didn't call. Word list to follow in a separate post.
In the meantime, enjoy this cute picture of our 18 month old little boy (taken today)!

YAY for Carter, the GENIUS!!!
Hailey was saying that many too at her 18 month appointment. Our pediatrician was shocked when I told him that she was saying that many. The reason they grill you so much at the 18 month appointment is because they (by law) have to run down a checklist to make sure they have no signs of Autism. I knew this, so I was prepared. I can't believe our kids are getting so big!!!
Happy 18 months! He IS a genius!
Ok.. that's weird the doc was so curious about how many words he says. Obviously you know as a mom if he's talking at all or not. Sorry...I'm in a irritated mood so that would bug me too.
Maybe I have a horrible doc then reading Aubrey's comment because I think my doc asked does he say anywords and I'm like yeah.. and rambled a couple and the doc was fine with that.
Just wait in a month or two Carter will probably be saying a hundred words. :)
Wow, what a smart boy! Trey says ma and da...and one time he said cheese when I was taking his picture. I don't think anyone is too concerned yet just becuase he is the third and that he had been sick. We need to get him to talk though!
Happy 1/2 b day Carter! What a little smartie pants! That is great. And can I just tell you reading this post just brought tears to me eyes, I am SO grateful this boy is all yours, he could not have personally picked anyone more amazing to be his mommy or daddy for that fact!
